Still Time to Sow! June Planting Tips for Zone 8

Think it’s too late to get planting? Think again!

In Zone 8 (that’s us, here in Wilmington), June is actually a great time to sow heat-loving seeds and plant summer-ready blooms that thrive in sunshine.

Here’s what you can confidently plant this month:

🌼 Direct Sow from Seed:

Zinnias – Fast, colorful, and perfect for cutting gardens.

Sunflowers – Towering, cheerful, and pollinator-friendly.

Cosmos – Airy blooms that love the heat and attract butterflies.

Marigolds – Pest-repelling beauties that bloom all summer.

Okra, Basil, & Beans – Yep, edible gardens count too!

Planting Tips for June:

Water deeply, especially during the first two weeks. Mulch well to lock in moisture and reduce heat stress. Avoid mid-day planting—early morning or late afternoon is best!
